My latest find

I found these:

... at the Salvation Army for $2.99 a piece. Lucky me, they were on sale for 50% off because they had a little blue sticker! Could it get any better then that?

They are pretty dated for my taste with the lids being wood, but I was determined to make them awesome!

I am daily inspired by this blog and this blog to do new things around the house. So, I am being more purposeful about that.

So here they are again, before I did anything to them.

And my supplies.

First I took all the tape off, and then I sanded the lids.

Then I put a layer of black acrylic paint on them.

I ended up doing 2 layers of black and 2 layers of acrylic varnish. Look at my fingers!

Then Rockstar washed the jars for me and viola! Here are finished pots!

I just love them!

What project have you completed lately?

1st time home buyers

Rockstar and I are looking at buying a house. A big decision for us, because we never saw ourselves settling in the sunny state of Florida. We both LOVE seasons and adore scarves, sweaters, peacoats and hot chocolate. We also love being outdoors (as long as the mosquitos are far away) and the beach. But after 6 years (10 for Rockstar) of living here, we have decided to stay.

We have rented 3 different places in the almost 5 years of marriage. We have lived in a duplex, an apartment and a house. Now it is time to make the leap and be a "real adult" and purchase a home.

We are so clueless, but are greatful for the wisdom of my parents (especially, my dad). They are guiding us along the way (even though they live in TN at the moment). Foreclosures seem like the best option for us, and here are 2 that we are seriously considering:

#1

This house is a great price, a good location and it doesn't need too much work to make it liveable. It is a deed restricted neighborhood, and a safe place to live. The schools are good and it is on the side of town we like. I would be happy living here and am really excited about the backyard for Theatre Baby to play in when he is up and walking!

#2

This house, on the other hand is my pick. It is in a historic part of town I have always dreamed of living in. It is the "worst house in best neighborhood" (a saying that has been drilled into me by my dad), and it is a historic home! It was built in 1920 and is just as adorable as can be! The front yard is fenced in, a definite plus for us. And the yard is shaded the majority of the day. The down side: it needs a lot of work and has no central heat of air! How is that possible here in Florida? Air conditioning is a normal part of life! You can't live without it! Even still, this is my pick.

We are still waiting to hear back from the morgage company. Hopefully we can move forward and get the ball rolling in time to not renew our lease here. I'll keep you posted!
